Search-Mgr

Search-Mgr is a dubious browser extension that cybersecurity researchers have classified as a browser hijacker, due to its intrusive capabilities. Furthermore, applications of this type are likely to be spread via questionable distribution tactics - deceptive websites, fake installers, and shady software bundles, which makes them PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs), as well.

Once installed on the user's device, Search-Mgr will establish control over the Web browser and modify several, important settings. Users will notice that their browser's homepage, new tab page, and default search engine have all been set to now open the unfamiliar searchmgr.online page. The address belongs to a dubious search engine that will now handle the initiated search queries. Users risk being shown search results filled with sponsored advertisements. At the same time, Search-Mgr could start showing numerous, unwanted advertisements in the form of pop-ups and other annoying messages.

A significant portion of PUPs also are capable of monitoring the users' browsing activities. The unwanted applications could monitor the browsing history, search history, clicked URLs, and more and exfiltrate the captured data to their operators.
