Searchnitnow.info is a search engine that is being promoted via a browser hijacker application. Typically, users do not even realize that an intruder application is being delivered to their Macs until they notice that their Web browser is acting strangely and opening unfamiliar pages. The deceptive behavior of these applications classifies them as PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs).

The main goal of a browser hijacker is to establish control over the browser's homepage, new tab page, and the default search engine. By doing so, it ensures that maximum traffic will be generated towards the promoted page, as it will be opened whenever the affected browser is launched, a tab is opened, or a search is started via the URL bar. 

Users should keep in mind that in nearly all cases, the pages that rely on such underhanded tactics are fake or dubious search engines. Fake engines lack the functionality to produce results on their own and that is why they let others do their job for them, such as the legitimate engines Yahoo, Bing or Chrome. On the other hand, a dubious engine is capable of delivering results. However, they are of low quality and mainly serve as an excuse to display numerous sponsored ad links. 

It is recommended to first remove the intruder PUP and then restore your browser to its usual state. Otherwise, you risk having your browsing activities tracked, packaged, and transmitted to a server under the control of the PUP's operators.
