SearchGamesOnline is a browser extension that hides intrusive browser-hijacker capabilities. The main purpose of the application is to take over the user's Web browser and modify numerous settings to generate artificial traffic and promote a sponsored address. More specifically, SearchGamesOnline will override the current homepage, new tab page, and default search engine settings, and set all three to open the searchgamesonline.com address.
The promoted page is a fake search engine that is incapable of producing any search results. After all, it lacks such functionality completely. Instead, it will take the user's search queries and redirect them to other engines. Although searchgamesonline.com has been observed to take results from the legitimate Google and Bing engines, this may not be the case for all users. Depending on certain factors, such as IP address, geolocation, and more, some users could be shown results from dubious search engines that may include various untrustworthy links and advertisements.
Most browser hijackers, as well as other PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs), also are equipped with data-tracking capabilities. The intrusive applications could be spying on the user's browsing activities. Numerous device details and even sensitive banking and payment information also could be harvested and transmitted to a server controlled by the PUP's operators.
