The Search Fort Pro browser extension from Chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/search-fort-pro/lgolphmpmbpkcejcnakmjaemapldngmo lacks screenshots and features a generic description. Most users might wonder how an extension of that type has 5,564 registered users according to the statistics listed on the Chrome Web Store at the time of writing this. The Search Fort Pro is briefly described as: "Chrome default Search by search fort pro lets you search the web from your address bar faster than ever before!" There is no explanation how Search Fort Pro speeds up the search in the Omnibox and how faster it might be compared to the Big Three — Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Computer security researchers report that the Search Fort Pro browser extension is a re-branded copy of the Searchfort Plus Search that we have added to our database on December 5th, 2017.
It was found that Search Fort Pro is published by the same company — SearchFort Media, which lacks an official site, does not have a valid services provider registration, and no contact information. The Search Fort Pro extension is promoted via questionable pop-up windows that load h[tt]p://www.searchfortpro[.]com. The pop-ups from Searchfortpro.com urge users to add 'Search App' without elaborating what it does, where it comes from and why they should add it. PC users may experience the Searchfortpro.com pop-ups on pages with adult-rated content and free software deployment platforms. The Search Fort Pro extension from SearchFort Media is categorized as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) that is programmed to change the default search in your browser to Searchfortpro.com. The same marketing strategies and behavior were observed during our analysis of the Searchfort Plus Search It appears there are third parties who are using Search Fort Pro to diver Web users to h[tt]p://www.searchfortpro[.]com/nsearch.html?q=[search terms] and then to a US-based customized version of Yahoo on h[tt]ps://us.search.yahoo[.]com/yhs/search?hspart=blp&hsimp=yhs-default&type=hmp_0_727_0&p=[search terms]&rnd=1211895136¶m1=sid%3D727%3Aaid%3D0%3Aver%3D0%3Atm%3D-1%3Asrc%3Dhmp%3Alng%3Den%3Aitype%3De%3Auip%3D1317180202%3Aup%3DZG9tb3JpbQ%253D%253D. You may notice a blank icon in the navigation bar of Google Chrome, which is added by Search Fort Pro and may be hard to spot. Computer security experts note that removing the Search Fort Pro extension with a trust-worthy scanner should allow you to restore the default settings in Google Chrome and add a search service of your choice.
