The Searchfort Plus Search browser extension is promoted as a search enhancement utility that allows users to search faster than ever before. Innovative technologies do not back these bold claims, and the program was reported to hijack browser settings in December 2017. The Searchfort Plus Search extension is published by a company called SearchFort Media that lacks an official site and valid registration as a services provider and software developer. The Searchfort Plus Search browser extension is known to have two versions that can be found on the following Web locations:

  • Searchfortplus.com and Chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/searchfort-plus/fgmobdghmdbfpeockbljcdiknkeakobp
  • Searchfortpro.com and Chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/search-fort-pro/lgolphmpmbpkcejcnakmjaemapldngmo

The Searchfort Plus Search browser hijacker may be seen under the name Search fort pro, and both versions are stated to be developed by SearchFort Media. An investigation into the Searchfort Plus Search browser hijacker showed that the program is distributed via freeware bundles primarily. Also, the Searchfort Plus Search browser hijacker is designed to alter the behavior of the Omnibox in Chrome and redirect the user's search queries to searchfortpro.com and then to the legitimate version of Google.com. A closer inspection of the questionable code revealed that the browser hijacker could inject advertisements in the Google search results page and send data like your Internet history, recent downloads and bookmarks to remote servers controlled by third parties. The lack of real search enhancements, the browser redirects, and suspicious data transmissions allow AV developers to categorize the Searchfort Plus Search/Search fort pro program as a browser hijacker that might inject ads and lead users to untrusted pages.
