Searcheq.com

After analysis, infosec researchers have classified Searcheq.com as a fake search engine. In practice, this means that searcheq.com is incapable of performing Web searches and delivering unique search results. Instead, users will be shown results taken from other sources that could include legitimate engines or even dubious ones.

So far, two different browser hijacker applications promoting searcheq.com have been identified - Easy Search and EQSearch. After installing either one of them, users will notice that the searcheq.com address has now been set as their browser's homepage, new tab page and default search engine. 

What results will be shown to the user could be influenced by a combination of different factors that may include the device's IP address, geolocation, browser type and possibly more. As such, some users could receive search results taken from Bing or Google. It is not excluded for searcheq.com also to show low-quality results generated by dubious search engines. 

Typically, the browser hijacker application will prevent users from making any further changes to the browser's settings. The intrusive applications also could be spying on the browsing activities carried out on the system. Information such as browsing history, search history, and clicked URLs could be transmitted to a remote server. Various device details and, in some cases, even sensitive payment and banking information also could be packaged and uploaded.
