Threat Database Ransomware Scorpion Ransomware

Scorpion Ransomware

The Scorpion Ransomware is a malware threat that can block users from accessing their computers. The threat relies on a powerful encryption algorithm to lock the files stored on the compromised machine effectively. All of the most popular file types can be affected, which ensures the maximum potential impact of the threat. Pictures, photos, archives, databases, etc., all will be rendered inaccessible and unusable. The Scorpion Ransomware will then extort its victims for money by promising to help them regain access to their files.

The Scorpion Ransomware marks the files it has encrypted by tampering with their original names. The threat will append '.Scorpion' as a new extension to each locked file. After completing its main task, the Scorpion Ransomware will deliver its ransom note containing instructions for the user. The message will be presented in an image that will substitute the default Dekstop wallpaper on the compromised system.

Victims of ransomware threats should do all they can to avoid interacting with cybercriminals. Doing so can expose them to further security risks, not to mention that such criminals cannot be trusted to uphold their end of the deal. Instead, use a professional anti-malware solution to clean the compromised computer system from any traces of the Scorpion Ransomware and then try to restore the locked files via a suitable backup.
