The Scoreboard Tab, as its name suggests, allows users to have a convenient way to track relevant scores from their a chosen sport. The relevant game data will be displayed on the browser's homepage. While this functionality definitely seems useful, it may not be enough to offset the fact that the Scoreboard Tab has been classified as a browser hijacker. Indeed, the application possesses intrusive capabilities that it uses to take control over certain browser settings. Furthermore, while present on the user's device, the application may prevent any attempts of restoring the affected settings by establishing persistence mechanisms.
Browser hijackers usually impact the homepage, new tab page, and default search engine of targeted Web browsers. These settings will be changed to now open a prompted page. As a result, every time users open the browser, start a search via the URL bar, or open a new tab, they would be redirected to the promoted page. Instead of generating traffic towards a dubious or even outright fake search engine, the Scoreboard Tab redirects users to the legitimate Bing search engine.
The fact that the Scoreboard Tab has been observed to be promoted via deceptive websites also classifies it as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program). These intrusive applications may possess various, unwanted capabilities, most commonly, the ability to monitor the users' browsing activities. However, many PUPs also collect and transmit numerous device details to their operators.
