Threat Database Adware SafeTravel

SafeTravel

SafeTravel presents itself as a useful application that can assist people who love traveling or learning about new places. Unfortunately, despite the features it offers, SafeTravel also falls in the category of adware applications - programs that generate monetary gains for their creators by delivering annoying, untrustworthy and unwanted advertisements.

Adware applications are typically spread via underhanded distribution methods designed specifically to mislead users. By being wrapped alongside another software product in what is known as a 'bundling' scheme, the intruder application could be deployed to the computer or device without the user even noticing it. The reliance on these dubious tactics justifies the classification of these applications as PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs).

Furthermore, in the vast majority of cases, the advertisements delivered via adware applications can be deemed risky. They could be promoting more intrusive PUPs or cause forced redirects to shady destinations. It is not uncommon for users who interact with the displayed advertisements to be redirected to fake giveaways, hoax websites, or phishing pages that try to obtain sensitive private information under various false pretenses.

Some PUPs also could carry data-tracking routines and spy on the users browsing activities. Certain device details may also be harvested, packaged with all other collected information, and exfiltrated to a remote server controlled by the PUP's operators.
