Judging by its description, the Renew Search definitely creates the impression that it could be a useful application. It promises users the ability to see additional search options when their regular search engines come up short on delivering the desired results. Unfortunately, installing the Renew Search browser extensions quickly reveals that the primary purpose of the application is something entirely different. Indeed, infosec researchers have examined the Renew Search and concluded that it is yet another intrusive adware.
Adware applications are designed to monetize their presence on users' devices by running intrusive ad campaigns. The advertisements could potentially be injected into unrelated websites in an attempt to appear more legitimate. When dealing with the advertisements generated by unfamiliar sources, users should exercise caution. The advertisements are likely to promote or lead to unsafe or dubious destinations, such as phishing schemes, suspicious adult platforms, gambling websites and more.
Adware, browser hijackers, and other similar PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) also are often equipped with data-tracking capabilities, and Renew Search may not be an exception. The operators of such applications usually go after users' browsing history, search history and clicked URLs. Various device details also could be included in the exfiltrated information.
