Regnation.ru exists solely to perform a browser-based tactic. The entire website is dedicated to this purpose and users will not find anything useful on the page. Instead, they will be greeted by deceptive clickbait messages designed to lure them into subscribing to the page's push notification services.
There are multiple fake scenarios that hoax pages of this type utilize as part of their scheme. Some pretend to be doing a CAPTCHA check and instruct their visitors to click on the 'Allow' button to verify that they are not robots. Others, like Regantion.ru, show a video window and claim that to gain access to it, users must click 'Allow.' Others still, may try to create the impression that by pressing 'Allow' visitors will download a desired file. As can be clearly seen, no matter the exact scenario, the messages always mention that it is crucial to click 'Allow' without revealing that doing so will enable their push notifications.
Users who do not notice the red flags and follow the instructions will soon be subjected to far more intrusive and unwanted advertisements than usual. The advertisements could utilize similar misleading tactics to promote additional con pages, suspicious adult-oriented sites, online betting platforms and more. Users also could be shown offers to download and install applications that are likely to contain intrusive adware or browser hijacker functionalities.
