Recif.click is an untrustworthy website that utilizes various misleading messages as a way to trick its visitors. Users should keep in mind that many rogue websites of this type are capable of adjusting the tactics they use, based on the incoming IP address/geolocation. For example, when infosec researchers examined the Recif.click page, they observed it running a version of the 'Your PC is infected with 5 viruses!' scam.
Recif.click will show users several pop-ups and a main page that will all be filled with fake security alerts. The warnings will be presented as if coming from a reputable source - the McAfee computer security company, in this case. However, the company has no connection to the Recif.click page. Furthermore, users should not believe the supposed threat scan that the dubious site will pretend to be running. This completely fabricated scan will invariably detect issues and even malware threats present on the user's device. These claims should be ignored entirely, as no website is capable of performing such functionality on its own.
Typically, the goal of schemes such as this one is to bombard users with fake scares and then lead them to an official page of a security software product. What users may not notice is that the opened page will have affiliate tags attached to its URL. As a result, any purchases or transactions completed on it will generate commission fees for con artists.
