Quick Baro is another deceptive and intrusive application designed specifically to take over users' Web browser. The goal of this PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) is to assume control over the browser and modify several important settings. In the end, users will notice frequent redirects to an unfamiliar address. Based on this behavior, the Quick Baro has been classified as a browser hijacker.
Once installed on the system, the application will modify the browser's homepage, new tab page and default search engine settings, with all three now being set to open the barosearch.com address. Users should keep in mind that this is not the first browser hijacker application that has been seen promoting this fake search engine.
Indeed, barosearch.com is a search engine that cannot produce results on its own. It operates by taking the initiated search query and redirecting it to a different source. More specifically, barosearch.com initiates a redirect chain that passes through my-search.com and trafficjunction.com before ultimately taking the search results from Bing.com.
PUPs also are known for spying on the user's browsing activities. These annoying applications may access the browsing history, search history, and clicked URLs, and transmit them to a remote server. Some could even try to exfiltrate sensitive and private information, by extracting it from the browser's autofill data. Typically, this includes account credentials, banking details, credit/debit card numbers, and any information that could lead to significant consequences if obtained by third parties.
