Qstx Ransomware

The Qstx Ransomware belongs to the infamous STOP/Djvu malware family. Despite the fact that it is yet another variant of the very popular STOP/Djvu family with few distinguishing features, the Qstx Ransomware remains a threatening malware capable of locking victims out of accessing their own data. Files, such as documents, pictures, photos, archived, databases, and more, will be encrypted with an uncrackable cryptographic algorithm and left in an unusable state. The cybercriminals will then extort their victims for money.

As part of its invasive actions, the Qstx Ransomware will append '.qstx' to the names of the locked files. The threat also will drop a text file named '_readme.txt.' Inside the text file, victims will find a ransom note with instructions. According to the message, they will have to pay the attackers a ransom of exactly $980. However, if users contact the threat actors within 72 hours of the Qstx infection, they will supposedly have to pay just half of that initial amount.

The note mentions two email addresses that can be used to reach the hackers. The main address is 'restorealldata@firemail.cc' while the reserve email is 'gorentos@bitmessage.ch.' Apparently, the hackers also have a Telegram account at '@datarestore.' It should be pointed out that communicating with cybercriminals is inherently risky and should be avoided. Otherwise, users could be exposing themselves to severe security or privacy issues.

The full text of the ransom note left by the Qstx threat is:
