QSCX Ransomware

The infamous STOP/Djvu Ransomware family appears to be maintaining its positions as a popular choice among cybercriminals with more and more variants being unleashed into the wild. One of the latest to be discovered by infosec researchers is the QSCX Ransomware. The threat operates as a typical STOP/Djvu variant. However, that in no way makes it any less threatening. The QSCX Ransomware is capable of encrypting the files stored on the breached system, rendering them inaccessible and unusable effectively. All locked files will have '.qscx' appended to their original names as a new extension. The ransomware threat will then deliver its ransom note in the form of a text file named '_readme.txt.'

Victims of the QSCX Ransomware who wish to restore their data may use two email addresses as communication channels with the hackers - 'helpteam@mail.ch' and 'helpmanager@airmail.cc.' The cybercriminals state that the sum they want to receive is $980 but if the victims reach out within the first 72 hours the price will be cut down to $490. Affected users also are allowed to attach a single encrypted file to their message that will then supposedly be decrypted for free.

Generally, users should avoid entering into negotiations with the people responsible for spreading malware threats. Doing so can expose the victims to further security risks.
