Qqri Ransomware

After analyzing the behavior and underlying code of the Qqri Ransowmare threat, infosec researchers confirmed that it is a variant belonging to the STOP/Djvu malware family. The threat can be deployed in attack operations against chosen targets. After it is executed on the infected device, the Qqri Ransomware will carry out an encryption routine that will leave most of the data stored there in an unusable state. Affected users will lose access to their documents, PDFs, images, photos, archives, databases and many other file types.

Each encrypted file will be marked by having '.qqri' attached to its original name. The threat also will drop an unfamiliar text file named '_readme.txt' on any breached system. Inside the file, victims will discover a ransom note detailing the instructions of the attackers. According to the message, the Qqri Ransomware's operators are trying to extort the sum of $980 from their victims. However, the ransom note also states that users who contact the threat actors within the first 72 hours will only have to pay half of the initial amount.

As part of their message, victims also are offered to send a single encrypted file that doesn't contain any important information, and if the note can be believed, the file will be returned unlocked for free as a demonstration. The communication channels provided by the cybercriminals include two email addresses - 'restorealldata@firemail.cc' and 'gorentos@bitmessage.ch, and a Telegram account at '@datarestore.'
