Qqpp Ransomware

The Qqpp Ransomware is another STOP/Djvu variant that cybercriminals can use to lock the data of their victims. When executed onto breached devices, the threat activates an encryption routine targeting documents, PDFs, photos, images, archives, databases and many other file types. The strength of the cryptographic algorithm ensures that victims will be highly unlikely to restore the locked files without assistance from the attackers.

Like a typical variant of the STOP Djvu Ransomware family, the Qqpp Ransomware also marks all affected files by attaching a new file extension ('.qqpp') to their original names. The threat also leaves a text file named '_readme.txt' on the infected systems. Inside this file, victims will find a detailed ransom note.

In their message, the cybercriminals state they want to be paid a ransom of $980. In exchange for the money, they will supposedly send back a decryptor tool and the decryption keys necessary for unlocking the user's data. To incentivize their victims to reach out to them, the threat actors also promise to lower the ransom amount by 50% for anyone who sends them a message during the first 72 hours following the attack. For this purpose, the note mentions two email addresses - 'support@bestyourmail.ch' and 'datarestorehelp@airmail.cc.'
