Qqlc Ransomware

The Qqlc Ransomware targets the data of its victims and locks it via a strong cryptographic algorithm. The operators of the Qqlc Ransomware then use the no-longer-accessible files as leverage to extort the affected users for money. The disruptions caused by ransomware could be severe and may stop the operations of even well-known corporations. In the case of the Qqlc Ransomware, the threat is part of the STOP/Djvu malware family and is mostly deployed in attacks against individual users.

When activated on the breached device, Qqlc will encrypt any documents, pictures, photos, databases, archives, etc. Each processed file will have '.qqlc' appended to its original name as a new extension. Upon locking all targeted file types, the threat will proceed to create a text file named '_readme.txt' on the system. Inside the file, victims will find a ransom note with instructions from the cybercriminals.

The ransom-demanding message reveals that the attackers promise to send a decryption tool and keys necessary for the restoration of the files only after being paid a ransom of $980. Victims who contact them within the first 72 hours of the Qqlc infection will supposedly be offered preferential terms and will only have to pay half of the initial amount. All affected users also are apparently allowed to send one encrypted file to be unlocked for free. Three communication channels are mentioned in the ransom note - two email addresses ('restorealldata@firemail.cc' and 'gorentos@bitmessage.ch') and a Telegram account ('@datarestore').
