Pushmeup.art is a deceptive page that exploits clickbait and social-engineering tactics to run a browser-based tactic. The goal of the page is to trick visitors into enabling its push notifications, under various false pretenses. If it is successful, the site will abuse the browser permissions associated with this otherwise legitimate browser feature to deliver unwanted advertisements to users.
One scheme that has been confirmed to be run by Pushmeup.art sees the page pretending as if a video that the users are trying to watch is encountering some issues. The message displayed by the site could be similar to:
'Can't play this video!'
'Browser may block video autoplay..'
'Click 'Allow' to play the video'
As we said, the 'Allow' button has a totally different functionality. Users that fall for Pushmeup.art's tricks will soon start noticing a sizeable increase in the advertisements encountered while browsing. The advertisements should not be trusted, as they will most likely promote additional con pages, suspicious online betting platforms, fake giveaways, etc. Users also may be shown offers to download and install various PUPs disguised as seemingly legitimate applications.
