NewPlayer is a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP), created by the TUGUU SL company. It is promoted as an application that would enable computer users to create playlists of their favorite music easily with sources from their PC and the Internet as well. Reportedly, this program supports various video and music files like MP3, MP4, FLV and MOV, and several people download it willingly. However, users may not find NewPlayer helpful because it shows typical adware and browser hijacker features. After the installation of NewPlayer, it will attach itself into your browser regardless of whether you use Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer. The adware may install plugins or extensions, sometimes even without permission.

Methods for the Distribution of NewPlayer
NewPlayer often comes bundled with a number of free programs. Usually, users have the option to decide if they want to install it or no. Unfortunately, the authors have intentionally made the decline possibility rather confusing and unclear. The NewPlayer checkbox may be marked in advance, or you may receive several notifications that it is highly recommended to install this software. In some cases, the information regarding NewPlayer is very scarce, or it may be hidden within detailed legal text like the EULA.
A more aggressive way of distribution is through website redirecting. You may follow a link, leading to a page that may automatically install NewPlayer. The creators of this adware application may mislead you that their software is necessary in order to watch videos and offer you to download it. Many people believe in the deceptive information about the functionality of this program and intentionally install it from various websites, including the original website of the company – newvideoplayer.com.
NewPlayer’s Dangerous Features
In order to be entirely accurate, NewPlayer is not a threatening program in the traditional understanding of this term. However, it is not a useful addition to your system and may affect negatively your entire computer experience. After NewPlayer is installed, it may modify your browser configuration and start displaying many advertisements on your screen. They may be in the form of pop-ups, banners or hyperlinks. They may slow down the performance of your browser as they rely on your computer resources. There are a few processes related to NewPlayer, which run silently in the background and consume a part of your RAM memory and processor ability. What is even more perilous is that these ads may transfer you to potentially harmful websites. There may be automatic redirects towards suspicious and unreliable search engines such as Conduit and Trovi.com. These sites may manipulate the searches in order to promote sponsored sites. After NewPlayer is present in your system, this adware may in turn install additional Potentially Unwanted Programs such as Social Privacy DNS that will limit your access to the Internet by blocking some websites. A tactic applied by the media player is to offer the users free movie streaming. They are required to click a button, but it will just lead to an unrelated site demanding registration.
As it gains access to your browser configuration, NewPlayer may collect and send to a remote server all kinds of browsing information without the user's authorization. This includes the browser history, searches, cookies and e-mail address. If this data reaches mailing lists, you may start receiving several spam e-mails or even telephone calls. NewPlayer alters your OS settings in order to start automatically with each Windows boot. Also, if they developers decide to update their product, they would not need your approval, and this may pose a risk.
Most Reliable Way to Remove NewPlayer
Although NewPlayer is not a true threat, it changes your OS setting and leaves traces in your browser and registries. It is advisable to remove not only the main program, but all files associated with it and additionally installed extensions as well. This may turn to be very difficult, especially for a non-specialist. The easiest and most reliable way to clean your computer from this threat permanently is to use a specially designed antimalware program. It will also prevent many more cyber dangers from penetrating into your system in the future.
