By GoldSparrow in Malware

PsMiner is a crypto mining tool that uses XMRig, a known tool that miners cryptocurrency illicitly. PsMiner can find its way to a computer by taking advantage of known vulnerabilities such as CVE-2015-1427, CVE-2018-1273, CVE-2014-3120 and CVE-2017-10271 in the servers that run Spring, Hadoop, ElasticSearch, Redis, the SQL server, Weblogic and ThinkPHP or using puny system credentials by brute-forcing them with its cracking module. PsMiner was configured to mine the Monero cryptocurrency and is working actively to achieve its goals. PsMiner is considered a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP).

PUPs are not harmful by themselves. However, a PUP like PsMiner can diminish the life of your machine due to the huge amount of resources it need use to mine cryptocurrency. PUPs also can collect non-personal information about the computer and its owner and share it with advertisers and perform other actions that may not make the computer users very happy. Therefore, if you detect PsMiner on your computer, you should remove it as soon as possible by using an anti-malware application.
