PsMiner

PsMiner is a crypto mining tool that uses XMRig, a known tool that miners cryptocurrency illicitly. PsMiner can find its way to a computer by taking advantage of known vulnerabilities such as CVE-2015-1427, CVE-2018-1273, CVE-2014-3120 and CVE-2017-10271 in the servers that run Spring, Hadoop, ElasticSearch, Redis, the SQL server, Weblogic and ThinkPHP or using puny system credentials by brute-forcing them with its cracking module. PsMiner was configured to mine the Monero cryptocurrency and is working actively to achieve its goals. PsMiner is considered a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP).

PUPs are not harmful by themselves. However, a PUP like PsMiner can diminish the life of your machine due to the huge amount of resources it need use to mine cryptocurrency. PUPs also can collect non-personal information about the computer and its owner and share it with advertisers and perform other actions that may not make the computer users very happy.
