Proud Browser

The Proud Browser is a browser extension that some users may not even remember installing. This is normal when it comes to dealing with adware, browser hijacker and PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) in general. These dubious software products are rarely distributed normally and, instead, often rely on questionable tactics - software bundles, fake installers, promotions via deceptive websites, etc. As a result, users may not even realize that such an application was even delivered to their computers or devices.

However, once installed, the PUP would usually make its presence immediately noticeable. When it comes to the Proud Browser, users will start experiencing annoying and intrusive advertisements that may appear as pop-ups, banners, notifications, etc. Users should always approach the advertisements delivered by unfamiliar sources with caution. The advertisements are likely to be promoting various, questionable or even unsafe destinations (phishing, tactics, technical support frauds, fake giveaways, etc.). They also may try to convince users to install additional PUPs masquerading as legitimate products.

Keeping PUPs active on your device is definitely not recommended. These intrusive applications may carry additional, unwanted functionality, as well. In fact, PUPs are notorious for monitoring users' browsing activities or collecting other information from their devices. Some PUPs may even be able to extract account credentials, banking info, payment details, or other, sensitive information from browsers' autofill data. However, getting rid of a PUP manually may be a tricky process. Many applications of this type establish persistence mechanisms to ensure their continued presence on the user's device.
