Protecthub.xyz is a dubious website, designed to present users with deceptive content. The page has been observed to use fake alerts and malware warnings to promote legitimate applications. In addition, it asks users to enable its push notification services and may cause unwanted redirects to similarly untrustworthy pages.
Upon landing on Protecthub.xyz, users will see a pop-up message that their computers or devices are at risk of malware infection, after visiting illegal or compromised websites. Protecthub.xyz will show a window that imitates the running of a malware scan. Of course, no website can perform such scans on its own so the shown results should be regarded as completely fake. Indeed, Protecthub.xyz may claim that it has found multiple malware threats on the system, to convince users to buy a subscription for McAfee, a legitimate cybersecurity app. However, keep in mind that that company is in no way connected to this fraudulent site, and the apparent goal of the fraudsters is to earn illegitimate commission fees for each sale.
As we said, Protecthub.xyz also may try to convince users to enable its push notifications. This is a common tactic that will allow the page to generate unwanted and intrusive advertisements and display them on the system subsequently. The advertisements could employ various clickbait messages to promote more unsafe destinations, such as fake giveaways, suspicious adult-oriented platforms, phishing schemes and more.
