Phonestar.info is yet another shady website that wants to trick users into subscribing to its push notification services. This is a popular browser-based tactic that unscrupulous people abuse to generate monetary gains. These deceptive sites show misleading or clickbait messages to their users, luring them into clicking the 'Allow' button. Afterward, the site will abuse its newly-received browser permissions to deliver questionable advertisements to the system.
Among the thousands of pages running this particular tactic, the most common scenario is to pretend to be doing a CAPTCHA check, showing messages such as - 'Click ALLOW to confirm that you are not a robot.' Phonestart.info has been observed employing a different, although similarly deceptive approach. Users who land on the page may be greeted by a message similar to:
'Click Allow to win a prize and get it in our shop!'
Is important to remember that the advertisements generated by these con pages should be approached with caution. It is entirely possible that the advertisements may employ similar manipulative tactics and then lead users to more suspicious websites.
