The Peace Ransomware is a powerful malware crypto locker that is based on the previously detected threat. Although the Peace Ransomware doesn't display any major improvements over the other variants from the family, it is nonetheless a threat that can effectively 'lock' users out of their computer systems.
Victims of the Peace Ransomware will no longer be able to either access or use nearly all of their personal or business-related files and projects stored on the compromised device. The malware threat uses strong encryption algorithms preventing the restoration of the data through brute-force attempts. The name of each locked file will be changed drastically. The Peace Ransomware appends the 'firstname.lastname@example.org' email address, a string of characters representing the ID assigned to the specific victim, and finally '.Peace' as a new extension. The ransom note of the hackers is dropped in every folder containing encrypted data as a file named '!INFO.HTA.'
The hackers' instructions do not specify the exact amount they demand in exchange for the decryption of the locked files. However, they do state that the price will be doubled after 48 hours have passed without a response. The ransom should also be transferred using Bitcoin, arguably the most popular cryptocurrency. Affected users are allowed to attach a couple of small files to their email messages for free decryption.
The entire set of instructions displayed by the Peace Ransomware is:
'!!! Your Files Has Been Encrypted !!!♦ your files has been locked with highest secure cryptography algorithm
