OriginalSearchManager

The name of OriginalSearchManager may suggest that the application may have something original in it, but its behavior is little more than that of a typical browser hijacker. Such applications' goal is to sneak themselves onto the computer of the user, in most cases, by taking advantage of deceptive marketing tricks such as bundling. As a result, the applications also can be classified as Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs). Once inside, they establish control over the user's browser quickly and the homepage especially, the new page tab and the default search engine. The goal is to set these settings to open a promoted address and generate artificial traffic towards it whenever the user simply opens the browser, a new tab, or conducts a search query.

The address promoted by OriginalSearchManager is search.locatorunit.com, yet another fake search engine. Researchers regard such search engines as fake due to the inability to produce any search results on their own. Instead, they take the user's search query and redirect it through a legitimate search engine - search.yahoo.com, in OriginalSearch Manger's case. Oftentimes, promoted results that do not have anything in common with the desired results are injected into the displayed link in order to generate additional monetary gains for the creators of the browser hijacker.

Users trying to revert their browser settings to their original state manually will find that the browser hijacker will not let them do so while it is still present on the computer. Trying to remove OriginalSearchManager from Google Chrome manually poses an additional hurdle, as the application abuses the 'Managed by your company' to prevent its uninstallation.

It is recommended to take the necessary steps to remove OriginalSearchManager from your computer completely as soon as you perceive the first signs of its activity by employing a professional anti-malware solution, preferably.
