Oori Ransomware

The Oori Ransomware may be only another variant with minimal effort to boost its features, but users should not underestimate the destructive potential of this malware threat. The Oori Ransomware belongs to the extensive STOP/Djvu Ransomware family. When executed on a breached device, the Oori Ransomware will target a vast amount of data and lock it using an uncrackable cryptographic algorithm. The threat will mark each encrypted file type by adding '.oori' to that file's name. Additional changes that victims will notice include the appearance of a text file named '_readme.txt.' The file contains a ransom note with the attacker's demands.

According to the ransom-demanding message, Oori Ransomware's operators are trying to extort the sum of $980 from their victims. In exchange, the threat actors promise to send back the necessary decryption keys and software tools. Of course, the words of cybercriminals should not be trusted, as there are no guarantees that the hackers are going to keep their promises.

The ransom note also reveals that victims who establish contact with the threat actors within the first 72 hours will supposedly be offered the preferential terms of having to pay only 50% of the initial ransom amount. The note states that as part of their message, affected users can attach a single locked file that will apparently be decrypted and returned for free.
