Oople

By JubileeX in Adware

The Oople Toolbar is one of the many toolbars that are associated with the infamous Conduit search engine. This search engine has been used as a way of generating advertisement revenue through the use of tactics typically associated with adware. Like other adware-like toolbars, the Oople Toolbar will change the affected Web browser's home page and default search engine to the Conduit search engine without permission. The Oople Toolbar will also cause the infected Web browser to display pop-up windows and advertisements and will make changes to the victim's Web browser that will cause browser redirects and alter search results on other search engines. These kinds of tactics are used to drive traffic to websites (in this case, to the Conduit search engine) in order to generate advertisement and affiliate marketing revenue.

The Annoying Problems Associated with the Oople Toolbar

Although the Oople Toolbar is not really severe enough to be considered malware, the Oople Toolbar has several characteristics that have caused PC security analysts to consider the Oople Toolbar as a Potentially Unwanted Program, or PUP for short. PUPs typically take the form of Browser Help Objects, browser extensions or toolbars and can make using the affected Web browser nearly impossible due to their intrusive behaviors. Most of the time, Oople Toolbar will be installed after downloading and installing a freeware program with which the Oople Toolbar may have been bundled. In many cases, it is possible to opt out of installing the Oople Toolbar, although careless installation can cause the computer user to overlook this option. When the Oople Toolbar is installed, the Oople Toolbar will change your Web browser's home page and default search engine to Conduit. It is important to note that this change will need to be undone manually once you remove the Oople Toolbar to restore your computer to normality.

Steps Involved in the Removal of the Oople Toolbar

The following steps should be taken to remove the Oople Toolbar completely:

  • Uninstall any freeware or shareware programs that may have been bundled with the Oople Toolbar.
  • Uninstall the Oople Toolbar using normal uninstall procedures.
  • Use a reliable anti-malware program to scan your computer for malware associated with the Oople Toolbar.
  • Manually undo changes to your browser settings cause by the Oople Toolbar.
