Ofoq Ransomware

The STOP/Djvu malware family is retaining its position and popularity among cybercriminals. Indeed, infosec researchers are uncovering more threatening variants from this family that could easily be used in attack operations. The Ofoq Ransomware threat is exactly such an example. The threat lacks any meaningful improvements compared to the other members of the STOP/Djvu Ransomware family, but it is sufficiently threatening to cause significant damage to the infected computers.

Ransomware threats target the files of their victims by subjecting them to data encryption. All processed files will be left in an unusable and inaccessible state. The Ofoq Ransomware marks the files it has locked by appending '.ofoq' to their names as a new extension. The threat will then create a text file named '_readme.txt' containing a ransom note with instructions from its operators.

Victims will be told that their data can be restored, but they will have to pay a ransom of $980 to obtain the necessary decryption keys and software tool. Contacting the hackers within the first 72 hours is supposed to reduce the price of the ransom by 50%. According to the ransom note, victims can send messages to two email addresses - ' restorealldata@firemail.cc' and 'gorentos@bitmessage.ch' and a Telegram account at '@datarestore.'
