Threat Database Ransomware Nqhd Ransomware

Nqhd Ransomware

The infosec community has identified another ransomware threat based on the STOP/Djvu family, which is extremely popular among the cybercriminals. The new variant is tracked as the Nqhd Ransomware and its destructive capabilities should not be underestimated. After successful infiltration of the targeted computers, Nqhd can encrypt a vast majority of the data stored there easily.

Victims of the threat will notice that something is wrong because nearly all of their files will name have a strange new file extension appended to their original names. Indeed, the Nqhd Ransomware uses '.nhqd' to mark all files that it has encrypted. The ransom note with instructions from the attackers will then be delivered to the compromised device. Users will find the attacker's message inside a newly-created text file named '_readme.txt.'

Demands Overview

Being just another variant, the Nqhd Ransomware uses the typical STOP/Djvu ransom note. The threat instructs its victims that to restore the locked data, they will have to pay a ransom of exactly $980. However, the attackers provide a way for the ransom to be cut in half and reduced to $490. The only listed requirement is for the victims to reach out and establish communication with the cybercriminals within 72 hours of the attack.

The note also mentions that a single encrypted file can be unlocked for free. Although there appear to be no size limitations, the chosen file must not contain any important information. According to the note, two email addresses can be used for communication. The primary one is 'manager@mailtemp.ch, while 'helprestoremanager@airmail.cc' acts as a reserver address.
