The NoteTab - Save Your Thought may claim to offer users access to several, convenient features but that appears to be far from its primary focus. Instead, when users install the browser extension on their systems, they would notice several changes to important browser settings. The browser's homepage, new tab page, and the default search engine will now all be set to open the unfamiliar 'find.unav-web.com' Web address. The presence of such functionality turns the NoteTab - Save Your Thoughts into a browser hijacker application. In addition, the reliance on dubious distribution techniques further classifies the application as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program).
The Web address promoted by the NoteTab - Save Your Thoughts belongs to a fake search engine. What this means is that users' searchers will be redirected to it, but find.unav-web.com will not be able to deliver any search results on its own. Instead, it will redirect the initiated search query to additional sources. In this particular case, the shown results were taken from the legitimate Bing search engine, but users with different IP addresses/geolocation could see results from different sources.
PUPs are often equipped with additional, unwanted functionalities. Many of them are capable of spying on the browsing activities carried out on the system. The intrusive application could access users' browsing history, search history, and clicked URLs, as well as many device details, such as the IP address, geolocation, device type and more. Even confidential data saved into browsers' autofill data could potentially be compromised, with users risking their account credentials, banking info, payment details, etc., being transmitted to the specific PUP's operators.
