Nobu Ransomware

It appears that the infamous STOP/DJVU family of ransomware threats is still as popular among cybercriminals as ever, with new ransomware variants being unleashed almost daily. One of the latest to be detected by infosec researchers is called the Nobu Ransomware. Although this particular threat doesn't demonstrate any meaningful modification or improvements, its capability to cause destruction shouldn't be underestimated.

Any computer infected by the Nobu Ransomware will be locked effectively, and users will no longer be able to access their private or work-related files. Nearly all of the most popular file types can be affected. The names of all encrypted files will have '.nobu' appended to them as a new extension. As for the ransom note, in a typical STOP/DJVU fashion, it is delivered as a text file named '_readme.txt.' A duplicate of the ransom note-carrying file will be created in every folder containing encrypted data.

The Nobu Ransomware's note states that victims of the threat will have to pay the sum of $980 if they want to receive the decryption key and software from the cybercriminals. The hackers offer to slash the ransom amount in half to $490 if the affected users establish communication within the first 72 hours following the ransomware infection. For that purpose, two email addresses are provided - 'helpmanager@mail.ch' and 'restoremanager@airmail.cc.' A single file is allowed to be attached to the email message to be decrypted for free.
