The pop-ups may also come in the form of notifications that attempt to get the computer user to allow additional notifications, which is believed to be part of a pay-per-click or pay-per-impression scheme.

The actions of root from its accompanying components or browser extensions. Such components may load when installing freeware apps or bundled software. When loaded, the components may modify Internet settings to potentially set the site as a default home page.

The many annoyances of may be remedied by the removal of the components or browser extensions. Such a process may be more involved than simply deleting the extensions as doing so could leave behind associated components allowing the same annoyances to continue.
