NetFormatBoost

NetFormatBoost is a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) that attempts to install itself onto users' systems unnoticed. As is typical for a PUP, it archives this by relying on underhanded tactics, such as bundling or hiding inside fake installers/updaters for other software products. However, the main functionality of NetFormatBoost is that of a browser hijacker.

Once inside the system, the application will establish control over the user's browser to start generating artificial traffic towards a sponsored address. In nearly all cases, browser hijackers are used as vehicles for the promotion of a fake search engine, and NerFormatBoost is not an exception. The PUP will set the homepage, new page tab, and the default search engine to open NetFormatBoost Search. This search engine is incapable of delivering meaningful results on its own. Any search query initiated by the user in the affected browser URL field will be redirected to the legitimate engine search.yahoo.com ultimately.

While it is present on the system NetFormatBoost might prevent the user from making any further changes to the select settings. The PUP also could start opening unwanted browser tabs containing dubious content. Users also might have their browsing habits tracked. PUPs are known for running data-harvesting routines. Information such as all visited sites, clicked URLs, and conducted searches might be packaged and uploaded to a remote server.

It is recommended to scan your system with a professional security product upon noticing the first signs of any activity that might be associated with a PUP.
