Multiple Account Adware

The Multiple Account describes itself as a useful browser extension that will allow its users to save and import website cookies from different accounts. However, installing it on their computers will quickly make it obvious that the Multiple Account falls into the adware category. These applications are mostly interested in the delivery of unwanted and intrusive advertisements to the devices they are installed on.

The problem with advertisements generated by such dubious sources is that they are often used as a way to promote questionable and sometimes even unsafe destinations or software programs. Users risk being shown advertisements for various online tactics, such as fake giveaways, technical support schemes, phishing tactics, etc. In addition, the advertisements could spread PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) disguised as legitimate programs, while hiding their adware, browser hijacker or data-tracking capabilities.

Indeed, while active on the device, PUPs could silently collect browsing-related data and numerous device details, and transmit the captured information to their operators. Infosec researchers warn that some PUPs are even capable of extracting data from browsers' autofill data. Typically, this feature is used as a way to more easily fill out account credentials, banking details, payment information and similar details on frequently visited websites.
