Msjd Ransomware

Cybersecurity experts analyzed the underlying code of the Msjd Ransomware threat and came to the conclusion that is another variant from the prolific STOP/Djvu malware family. Despite being an almost identical copy of the other threats, the Msjd Ransomware retains devastating potential for damage. If the threat is successfully deployed on the targeted systems, it will engage an encryption routine that will leave nearly all of the files stored there, in an unusable state.

Each encrypted file also will have its original name modified. More specifically, the threat will append '.msjd' as a new file extension. The typical ransom note expected to be delivered by ransomware threats is also present there. It is dropped on the breached system as a new text file named '_readme.txt.'

Attackers' Demands

Opening the file will present victims with a list of instructions. The note reveals that the operators of the Msjd Ransomware demand to receive the sum of $980 for their assistance with the restoration of the files. That initial amount, however, can supposedly be reduced by 50% if the victims manage to reach the hackers within the first 72 hours of the attack. Communication can be carried out via the two email addresses - 'manager@time2mail.ch' and 'supportsys@airmail.cc,' mentioned on the ransomware's note. Affected users are also informed that they can send 1 locked file to be decrypted for free.
