Mmob Ransomware

According to an analysis conducted by security researchers, the Mmob Ransomware threat is a variant belonging to the infamous STOP/Djvu malware family. Ransomware operators are continuing to use this prolific family as a basis for the creation of new potent threats. Indeed, Mmob's destructive capabilities allow it to encrypt any documents, PDFs, audio and video files, databases, archives, images, photos, etc., stored on the breached computers.

The encrypted files will no longer be usable or accessible. In addition, each locked file will have '.mmob' appended to its original name. This file extension is one of the distinguishing characteristics of the Mmob threat. As part of its actions, the malware also will generate a new text file on the system. This file named '_readme.txt' will carry a ransom note with instructions from the cybercriminals responsible for spreading Mmob Ransomware.

According to the ransom-demanding message, the hackers are trying to extort the sum of $980 from their victims. In exchange, they promise to send back the required decryption key and a software tool capable of restoring the locked files. To establish contact, users are directed towards messaging two email addresses (restorealldata@firemail.cc and gorentos@bitmessage.ch) or the hackers' Telegram account. Users should always keep in mind that communicating with cybercriminals could expose them to even more security risks. Not to mention that there are no guarantees that the hackers will keep their end of the deal and will not simply run away with the ransom money.
