Mmnn Ransomware

Researchers reported a new threatnamed Mmnn Ransomware. Although the Mmnn Ransomware is not equipped with any new features or functions, it is perfectly capable of causing significant damage to any system it manages to infect. It does so by employing an encryption routine that locks that files stored on the system with an uncrackable cryptographic algorithm. Afterward, users will not be able to access their photos, documents, archives, databases, etc. 

The Mmnn Ransomware marks all files it encrypts by modifying their original names - '.mmnn' is appended as a new file extension. The threat then delivers its ransom note with instructions for the victims. Users are told that they will have to pay a ransom if they want to receive the decryption key and software from the cybercriminals. The amount of the ransom is set at $980 but the hackers promise to decrease the sum by 50%, to $490, if the affected users contact them within the first 72 hours of the ransomware infection.

The infosec researchers that detected the new ransomware variant also infor that it is spawned from the prolific STOP/Djvu malware family. 

Victims of the Mmnn Ransomware will find two email addresses that can be used for communication - 'helpdatarestore@firemail.cc' and 'helpmanager@mail.ch.' They also can attach a single locked file that will supposedly be decrypted for free.
