Mcprotectionpro.com is a rogue website running a popular browser-based tactic. Users are unlikely to open pages such as this one intentionally. After all, these hoax websites don't provide any meaningful content at all. Instead, they try to take advantage of their visitors by tricking them into unknowingly enabling the site's push notifications. However, Mcprotectionpro.com also may be running different schemes based on the IP address and geolocation of the specific visitor.
One of the false scenarios confirmed to be utilized by the page involves showing a video window. The dubious page will then claim that the video cannot be accessed unless users press the displayed 'Allow' button. Users may see messages similar to:
'Click 'Allow' to play the video'
'Stream and download are available'
What Mcprotectionpro.com doesn't specify is that pressing the button will subscribe the user to the page's notification. This will allow the site to start running an unwanted ad campaign. Users may begin seeing numerous, annoying advertisements while browsing the Internet or simply using the affected device. Furthermore, the advertisements are likely to promote additional dubious destinations, such as fake giveaways, phishing portals, platforms spreading intrusive PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) and more. Pressing 'Allow' also may trigger an unauthorized redirect to an unsafe website.
