The MapsVoyage software from Mapsvoyage.com is promoted as a browser extension for Google Chrome that helps you find the most convenient route from point A to point B. The MapsVoyage extension is very similar to the Go Maps Chrome Extension and the MetroWhiz Toolbar in terms of what they offer. All three extensions provide customized experiences based on the Google Maps. The MapsVoyage extension is designed to change your new tab page to hxxp://www.mapsvoyage.com/ and show advertisements during your online activity. The MapsVoyage Chrome Extension is an ad-supported product, and this information is not hidden from the Web surfers. In fact, the description for the MapsVoyage Chrome Extension on the Chrome Web Store reads:
'Advertising by MapsVoyage
This Chrome extension shows advertisements to you while you are on the web. We do not record or monitor any of your Personally Identifiable Information (PII). We use advertisements as a way to support our site so that you can continue to use MapsVoyage for free!'
However, tests showed that the MapsVoyage Chrome Extension does not provide what it says except for the advertisements. The MapsVoyage Chrome Extension manifests as an icon in the navigation panel of Chrome, but no changes are applied to the new tab and start page settings. The ads by MapsVoyage may be displayed as promotional offers via banners and ad-boxes. The MapsVoyage extension requires the right to read all data exchanged by the user with third parties. A concerning fact is that the Terms of Use Agreement at Mapsvoyage.com/terms-of-use do not disclose information how your data is handled and how to customize the ads provided through the MapsVoyage app. Hence, many consider the MapsVoyage software to be a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP), which you may want find for removal. A credible anti-spyware scanner can have all data associated with MapsVoyage cleaned from your PC.
