Maplt Adware

The MapIt application tries to attract users who like to travel often and, as a result, frequently need access to accurate maps of the surrounding region. However, unfortunately, this is not the only functionality of the application, as after being installed, MapIt quickly shows that it is more interested in generating unwanted and intrusive advertisements. This behavior is the reason why the application is classified by cybersecurity vendors as adware.

Adware programs are designed to generate proceeds for their operators by running annoying ad campaigns that consist of showing mostly dubious and questionable advertisements to users. Interacting with the advertisements is not recommended, as the advertisements may abuse various social engineering and clickbait tactics to lure users and then redirect them to scam websites, fake giveaways, phishing schemes, portals spreading additional PUPs, and other suspicious destinations.

In addition, these intrusive applications are highly likely to possess data-harvesting capabilities. Their operators may try to continuously spy on the user's browsing activities to deliver more targeted advertisements. The acquired information may include the entire search history, every visited website, and all clicked links. Device details (IP address, geolocation, device type, OS version, browser type, etc.), as well as sensitive information saved into the browser, also may be extracted and potentially compromised.
