Macfaster Pro

The Macfaster Pro, if you judge it by its own claims, is an application that will make your Mac device run faster and smoother by optimizing and cleaning the system of various issues. The problem is that the issues detected after running a scan with Macfaster Pro appear to be fake. That will not stop the application from pretending that they are all serious issues that must be dealt with as soon as possible. Before the application can run its optimization magic. However, users will have to buy the paid version. Indeed, this is the sort of tactic run by the Macfaster Pro application - it tries to scare users by showing various problems and then promise to clean the non-existent issues after users fork up the money. Such behavior is typical for rogue applications, but Macfaster Pro also can be classified as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program).

PUP advertise themselves as useful and convenient applications but that is nothing more than a facade - they all have ulterior motives. For example, Adware will start generating unwanted advertisements, banners, pop-ups and it could even inject hyperlinks into the text of websites visited by the user. The advertisements could redirect to dubious or suspicious third-party websites that peddle other PUPs.

Browser hijackers are another large subset of PUPs. These applications are designed to generate artificial traffic towards a promoted address, in most cases a fake search engine. The applications take over certain browser settings - homepage, new page tab, and the default search engine- and set them to open the sponsored link to achieve this goal. Users will be prevented from reverting the settings to their original state as long as the browser hijacker remains present on the device. Furthermore, this type of PUP is known for having data-collecting capabilities. Usually, the users' browsing and search history, clicked URLs, IP address and geolocation will be logged and exfiltrated.

If you encounter the Macfaster Pro, it is recommended to ignore it or remove it, the sooner, the better if it has already been installed on your Mac.
