Lssr Ransomware

The STOP/Djvu Ransomware family appears to still be as popular among cybercriminals as ever. Indeed, new variants that use STOP/Djvu as a basis are being released into the wild almost daily. One of the latest threats to be classified as a part of the prolific STOP/Djvu malware group is the Lssr Ransomware. Despite lacking any meaningful improvements, Lssr Ransomware's destructive capabilities can impact any compromised computer severely. The threat initiates an encryption routine with an uncrackable cryptographic algorithm and locks most of the user files stored on the breached device. Among the targeted file types are documents, PDFs, archives, databases, audio, video, photos, etc. Every encrypted file will be marked by having '.lssr' appended to its original name.

The ransom note of the threat is dropped as text files named '_readme.txt' that are created in every folder containing encrypted data. The instructions are identical to those delivered by other STOP/Djvu variants. The hackers state that they want to receive a ransom of $980 to provide their victims with the decryption key and tool need for the restoration of the locked data. If victims establish contact within the first 72 hours, they are promised that the amount of the ransom will be slashed in half to $490. Impacted users can also attach a single file that will supposedly be unlocked for free. The ransom note mentions two email addresses that can be used to reach the hackers - 'manager@mailtemp.ch' and 'helpmanager@airmail.cc.'

Users should avoid contacting the cybercriminals as doing so could expose them to additional security risks. Sending any amount of money to people responsible for ransomware schemes is not recommended, either. Instead, use a professional anti-malware solution to get rid of Lssr Ransomware and only after that try to restore the encrypted data from a suitable backup.
