The LightningDownloader application may claim to speed up your video and music downloads and be listed as an additional offer under the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' option of freeware bundles. Security experts warn users that the LightningDownloader application is deemed as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) with adware capabilities that function similarly to EZDownloader from WebPick Internet Holdings Ltd. The LightningDownloader app doesn't have a valid digital certificate and may connect to the Internet via unencrypted channels where data packages can be intercepted and modified by third parties. Needless to say, the LightningDownloader may expose users to corrupted binary. The LightningDownloader app may insert several keys in the Windows registry to become your default program for download tasks. Moreover, the LightningDownloader app may add a task in the Windows Task Scheduler to automate its updates and may introduce third-party software to your OS. The LightningDownloader may install apps such as the Cats and Catapults Toolbar and Daily Deal Shopper without your explicit consent automatically. As stated above the LightningDownloader has adware capabilities, and it uses tracking cookies, web beacons, and pixels to deliver customized commercials via in-text hyperlinks and pop-up windows. The LightningDownloader application may offer users to install rogue applications like Total Security 2009 and 24/7 PC Guard. Rogue apps are typically used to scare users with fake security alerts and ask users to purchase a premium license to remove threats that are not present on your system. Additionally, the LightningDownloader application may launch a background service at boot-up to obstruct users from manually removing it and ensure its operations every time you turn on your PC. Therefore, you might want to use a reputable anti-malware tool to remove all components of the LightningDownloader application.
