Threat Database Adware LeadingAdviceSearch

LeadingAdviceSearch

LeadingAdviceSearch is a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) that combines the capabilities of adware with those of a browser hijacker. The application relies on deceptive marketing methods to spread itself, as users almost never download such PUPs intentionally. No matter how LeadingAdviceSearch has managed to sneak itself onto the user's Mac system, it will lead to a severely diminished experience on that device, certainly.

After all, LeadingAdviceSearch will start to monetize its presence by running an intrusive advertising campaign. The unwanted ad materials could be presented as pop-ups, banners, surveys, etc. They could even start to cover the legitimate content viewed by the user. While this is going on, the application will proceed to take over certain browser settings to promote a sponsored address. The typical browser hijacker behavior affects the homepage, new tab page, and the default search engine, while the promoted address is that of a fake search engine. Such engines cannot produce search results on their own, as they simply lack that functionality. Instead, the user's search queries will be redirected to a legitimate engine such as Yahoo, Bing or Google.

It is not recommended to keep PUPs such as LeadingAdviceSearch on your devices even if you find certain aspects of the application to be useful. PUPs are known for harvesting browsing-related data such as the search history, visited websites, clicked URLs, IP address, geolocation, etc., and sending it to their own servers.
