InterfaceSample

InterfaceSample is included in the Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) classification. InterfaceSample also possesses browser hijacker and adware capabilities and has the Mac OS system as its targets. InterfaceSample modifies the browser settings to promote fake search engines and push intrusive advertising campaigns.InterfaceSample promotes the Safe Finder fake search engine through akamaihd.net. InterfaceSample also uses questionable distribution techniques, which is what categorizes it as a Potentially Unwanted Program.

Belonging to the Adload malware family, InterfaceSample infects a user's computer and begins to display intrusive advertisements on every web page that they visit, in the form of coupons, banners, pop-ups and surveys. This not only limits the webpage visibility but also slows down performance. Clicking on the intrusive advertisements can lead to further malware infections.

Furthermore, the browser hijacker capabilities allow InterfaceSample to alter the browsers' default search engine, homepage, and new tab to display the fake Safe Finder search engine through the akamaihd.net URL. As Safe Finder isn't capable of generating any search results, it redirects to Yahoo, Google or Bing merely. However, redirecting through this bogus search engine can expose valuable user information such as visited pages, search queries, geolocations, IP addresses and more.

Such information can be sold to third parties, ending up in the hands of cybercriminals that can use it for their own gains. Having adware or a browser hijacker such as InterfaceSample, ProduceStyle, or GeneralCache installed on your Mac can cause financial losses, severe privacy issues and even identity theft.
