Illoxum is an adware infection that is responsible for numerous types of advertisements on the affected computer. Complaints involving Illoxum, claim that this advertisement platform causes affected Web browsers to become nearly useless. This is because Illoxum will interrupt the computer users' activities with pop-up content, browser redirects, mouse-over advertisements and a variety of other types of marketing content. If your Web browser is displaying Illoxum advertisements, this indicates that a Web browser extension was installed on your Web browser. These types of Web browser add-ons are known as Potentially Unwanted Programs or PUPs for short. PUPs are not as unreliable as more risky types of threats but do cause numerous symptoms that are more commonly associated with malware. Because of this, Illoxum and PUPs associated with this advertisement platform should be removed from the affected Web browser immediately.

What are the Consequences of the Illoxum Infection

The following symptoms are known issues that are either caused by Illoxum or that are often present when the affected Web browser is affected by the Illoxum adware:

  1. Illoxum may cause browser redirects, forcing the affected Web browser to visit certain websites.
  2. Illoxum causes the appearance of a wide variety of advertisements on the affected Web browser. Illoxum may be responsible for pop-up advertisements, sliding advertisements, banner advertisements, mouse-over pop-up boxes and a variety of suspicious pop-up messages and fake error dialogs.
  3. Illoxum makes unwanted changes to the affected Web browser. Illoxum may change your Web browser's homepage and default search engine to websites associated with Illoxum. Illoxum may also make your Web browser more vulnerable than normal to threat attacks by lowering its security settings and allowing third parties to place cookies or other unwanted components against your knowledge.
  4. Illoxum adware may cause performance issues on the affected Web browser. Illoxum may cause the affected Web browser to crash or freeze frequently. Computer users may believe that there is something wrong with their Internet connection because pages take longer than normal to load. However, this may happen because Illoxum is redirecting traffic through its own affiliate domains in order to generate advertisement and marketing revenue at the expense of the computer user.
