Infosec researchers have confirmed that the Ijony.click page is a rogue website used by its operators as a platform for running online tactics. Indeed, the site has been observed to show numerous, fake security warnings presented as if coming from a reputable infosec source to trick visitors. These questionable pages often exploit the names, brands, logos, and interface schemes of legitimate computer security companies - McAfee, in this case, to make their fabricated claims seem real.

Another common tactic associated with these schemes is to pretend to run a threat scan of the visitor's device, even though no website is capable of such functionality on its own. Not surprisingly, the scan will always show that numerous, serious issues and several malware threats have been detected on the system. After all, the goal of the fraudsters is to scare users into following the displayed instructions.

Usually, the rogue site will instruct its visitors to press a conveniently provided button to resolve the supposedly critical security issues. Users will then be taken to an official page belonging to a legitimate security tool. However, affiliate tags would have been attached to the site, and each completed transaction will generate commission fees for the fraudsters. Of course, rogue websites like Ijony.click could easily be modified to start pushing intrusive PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) instead. Such applications are often disguised as seemingly convenient software tools, while in reality, their main capabilities include the delivery of advertisements, browser hijacking and data tracking.
