Threat Database Ransomware Iiss Ransomware

Iiss Ransomware

The Iiss Ransomware is yet another malware variant that has been spawned from the prolific STOP/DJVU family of ransomware threats. Most of the Iiss Ransomware aspects are identical to the rest of the variants that belong to the STOP/DJVU Ransomware family. The two most distinguishing features are the email addresses under the hackers' control and the specific extension used to the encrypted files.

If the Iiss Ransomware manages to infiltrate the targeted computer successfully, it will use uncrackable cryptographic algorithms to encrypt nearly all files. The threat can affect Office documents, spreadsheets, databases, pictures, photos, audio and video files. Each encrypted file will have '.iiss' appended to its original name as a new extension. Users would be unable to either access or use any of the encrypted files, which could have dire consequences if the locked data was for an important work-related project. The Iiss Ransomware drops its ransom note in the form of text files named '_readme.txt' and dropped in every folder containing encrypted data.

According to the note, the criminals behind the Iiss Ransomware want to receive the sum of $980. In exchange, they will provide the affected users with a decryption tool that might be able to restore the encrypted files. If victims establish contact within the first 72 hours following the ransomware infection, the ransom price will be reduced by 50% to $490. Two email addresses are provided for that purpose - the main one is 'helpmanager@mail.ch' while the secondary address is 'restoremanager@airmail.cc.' One file only can be attached to the email to be decrypted for free.

No matter what the price demanded by the cybercriminals is, sending them any amount of money is not recommended. There are no guarantees that the criminals' part of the deal will be honored, or the decryption tool will even be able to restore all of the affected data. Not to mention that the money will most likely be used to fund any future threatening operations.

The ransom note delivered by the Iiss Ransomware reads:
