Igvm Ransomware
Threat actors are continuing to develop new powerful ransomware threats based on the STOP/Djvu Ransomware family. The latest member of the STOP/Djvu Ransomware to be detected by infosec researchers is the Igvm Ransomware. The threat encrypts files on compromised systems and then extorts the victims for the potential restoration of the locked data. All affected files will have '.igvm' appended to their original names as a new extension. Igvm Ransomware's note with instructions for the victims is delivered as text files named '_readme.txt.'
According to the note, users who wish to receive the decryption key and software from the cybercriminals will have to pay the sum of $980. The hackers appear to realize that close to $1000 is out of reach for most individual users, so they offer a 50% discount if victims establish communication within the first 72 hours following the ransomware infection. Two email addresses are provided as communication channels - the primary one is 'helpteam@mail.ch' while the reserve email is 'helpmanager@airmail.cc.' A single file can be attached to the message and it will supposedly be decrypted for free. The only restriction is that the file must not contain any valuable information.
